The public gathering was under the Project of Access to Justice to persons with disabilities

On the 4th June, 2019 Lesotho National League of the Visually Impaired Persons under facilitation of Mr. Jeremane Teele held apublic_gathering.pdf public gathering at Siloe Community Council. Mr. Jeremane specified that the objective of the public gathering is to make the communities about rights of persons with disabilities. To make them understand that they should assist where necessary to report any violation relating to abuses made to PWDs. He continued to ask participants some questions like;
Question: What do you understand by the word Disability?
Mr. Potso Sehloho answered; disability means people who cannot walk including those people who got hurt when working in the Mines or car accidents. He also showed that sometimes a child can bear with disability.
Jeremane appreciated all the answers given and how people understand it. He stated the international definition of disability by saying; “Disability defines a disabled person as someone who has a physical or mental impairment that has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on his or her ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.” He also made many examples of issues that are affecting persons with disabilities participate in a day – to – day activities.
He also indicated that LNFOD and its member affiliates would like to have case information if can hear about them within our villages. The intension is to stop abuses to PWDs in the communities by the communities.
There were about 5 persons with disabilities attended the public gathering, among them there was a lady who has been employed to the Community Development activity as the public gathering was meant for it.
