MOHLOLI OA BOPHELO REHABILITATION AND TRAINING CENTRE (MBTC)

Established in 2000, Mohloli oa Bophelo Rehabilitation and Training Centre (MBTC) is dedicated to the visually impaired people of Lesotho. Situated at Ha Ts`osane, in
the district of Maseru, it is the only centre of this kind in the Mountain Kingdom of Lesotho.

Currently, MBTC accommodates 40 students of all ages who are trained in candle making, Braille Literacy, sewing, knitting, home economics, orientation and mobility, and computer skills.

Originally staffed by visually impaired volunteers, MBTC now has three qualified full-time teachers funded by the Government of Lesotho.

Students undergo training for a period of 12 months, after which those of school-going age are encouraged to continue with their studies. Assistance is provided to mature students to begin self-help projects operated from their own homes.

The various items produced at MBTC, candles for example, are sold to the community in the immediate surrounding area. People of good will also get them from the centre.
